Client Partnerships

Project Summary

We understood we needed to solve the problem that University students aged 18-30 years do not prefer email subscriptions when receiving their news from news organisations.

Through deep analysis of our client brief, and thorough primary and secondary research we recognised the need to restructure The Conversation's existing weekender newsletter to instead reflect the news reading behaviours and desires of the target audience, in order to increase email subscriptions amongst the target demographic.

So, we developed The Conversation: Verified.

The Conversation: Verified is a weekly newsletter that offers easy and attractive features, including allowing subscribers to customise their feed to be filled with only topics they are interested in, as well as academic 'debunking' of fake news each week.

The newsletter can be seen on ‘The Project’ page (under heading ‘The Newsletter’) – and shows examples of the subscription interface and a mock-up of the actual newsletter. We have developed a range of artefacts (found under ‘The Project’s ‘The Artefacts’ tab) that we believe will address our target audience and allow full engagement with The Conversation: Verified.

Chloe Power

Hi I'm Chloe! I am from the Public Relations Stream of Professional Communication. As a visual learner and a pragmatist, who is extremely interested in interdisciplinary practice when it comes to both strategic and creative communication, I was able to explore and experiment with a lot of elements of this project. My main roles for this project have been concept ideation, researching, social media artefact development, website creation and writing/editing the reports.

Jasmine Grujovski

Hi there, my name is Jasmine, and I am a professional communications student with a vested interest in public relations. I appreciate the moral in a story, the message spoken, written, or performed and thus my passions lay in many creative outlets including film, theatre, dance, and photography. I want to dedicate my life’s work to many societal causes, particularly sustainability and climate change, LGBTQ+ rights, mental health, animal welfare, education, and health care. I thoroughly enjoyed applying my research, writing and strategic campaigning skills in the ideation of this project and had a lot of fun experimenting with Adobe suite to create designs for its execution.

Claire Boland

Hi I'm Claire and I'm currently in the Public Relations stream in the Professional Communications course. Throughout this project I've helped to keep the team organised by regularly contacting and corresponding on the Facebook group chat and by delegating tasks. Moreover, I learn best visually and kinaesthetically, which perfectly demonstrates my ability to step back, observe and participate. Working on the campaign has given me further insights into what it is like to work in internal communications, an area in which I wish to step into after graduating.

Samuel Barnes

Hi, I'm Sam! I'm a third-year Public Relations student gearing up to enter the work force. I enjoyed reading as a child, and whilst this continued to adolescence, it transformed into a love for writing. Through multiple internships, I have had the ability to strengthen my copywriting skills, which is a valuable skill that will be necessary for my future in the Public Relations industry. I hope to be working in a Public Relations firm in 2021, as I believe it will be incredibly insightful and rewarding for me. I have taken on the role of the overseer for this project, as I have been responsible for taking minutes and updating the project timeline. I have been involved with group brainstorms and discussions, and have had a prominent role in presenting our work to the class and client. As I see myself entering a career into copywriting, I have also been responsible for proofreading and formatting work before submission.

Caitlin Dragon

My name is Caitlin and I am specialising in the Media stream of Professional Communications. I have a particular interest in film and love to watch and analyse films from all genres. Because of this, I spend a lot of my time editing and colour correcting footage. Within this project I used my Adobe skills to create the video artefact for the campaign, as well as conduct research for user testing.
